The Year Our Batch Made History
The year 1976 was particularly memorable for MBHS. Our batch achieved an extraordinary result in the Uttar Pradesh Board examinations, securing marks that, as we remember, had never been achieved before. This remarkable academic performance brought the school considerable attention and recognition, enhancing its standing in the public eye.
For us, it was more than an examination result. It was a moment when the collective talent, dedication and academic spirit of our batch shone through. We had the privilege of being part of a group whose performance became a talking point and whose achievements helped create a proud chapter in the school’s history.
One of our batchmates, achieved a milestone at Mahanagar Boys’ High School, Lucknow (now known as Montfort Inter College), achieving score of 85%, when in earlier years, student Anadi Johri’s achieved 81% in 1975 and Ajay Kumar Rawal’s 81% in 1969, respectively.
The Aryabhatt Moment We Still Remember
Among the many memories of those days, one incident from our final-year science examination remains particularly cherished. During the examination, an external science examiner asked one of our classmates what he knew about Aryabhatt. Our classmate politely countered with a question of his own:
The examiner was taken aback by this confident and knowledgeable response. The incident became a talking point at the time and remains a delightful reminder of the curiosity, presence of mind and depth of knowledge that our classmates displayed even as schoolboys.
Our Alma Mater: A Journey of Its Own
Boys’ High School (Up to Class X)
Intermediate College (Up to Class XII) Co-educational
The MBHS we knew was a boys’ high school, taking students up to Class X. Today, it has proudly evolved into an intermediate college, extending education up to Class XII, and has opened its doors to girls as well as boys, becoming a co-educational institution.
This transformation reflects the changing times and the school’s continuing commitment to education. While the institution has grown and evolved, our memories of its classrooms, teachers, friendships and formative experiences remain timeless.
We are proud to have been part of its history and delighted to see our alma mater continue its journey, educating new generations and building a legacy of its own.
Fifty Years On, Still One Family
Looking back across five decades, we realise that the true legacy of our batch is not measured by examination marks, professional designations or individual accomplishments alone. It is also found in the friendships we formed, the values we acquired and the shared experiences that continue to connect us across distances and generations.
We may have pursued different careers, settled in different places and followed very different paths in life. Yet, we all share one beginning: our years at Mahanagar Boys High School, Lucknow.
The classmates who once sat together in classrooms, prepared for examinations, shared laughter and dreamed about the future have become professionals, leaders and contributors to society. But beneath all those achievements, we remain the same group of school friends, united by memories that time cannot erase.
Fifty years may have passed, but the bond remains.
Proud of our school. Proud of our batchmates. Proud to be MBHS, Class of 1976.
